Meet our staff

  • John Shields

    Teaching Pastor

I married my high school sweetheart, Julie, in May 1988. We have four children: David lives in Dallas with his wife Brianna, Rachel attends Liberty University, Seth attends Tabor College, and JohnMark is a junior in high school.

Though born in Kansas, I really grew up in Sarasota, Florida with one brother and two sisters. School, music, and wrestling were my favorite things. Most of those years were spent seeking to excel in the classroom and as a musician.

Formal training includes undergrad at Florida Southern College, which led to graduate work in Philadelphia, Dallas Theological Seminary, and finally a Doctorate from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City. Julie and I responded to God's call to Lexington in 1995 from seminary in Dallas. It has been a wonderful place for our family. We have grown to love many people here over the years and are grateful to have witnessed God's work in so many.

Spiritually, I first learned about Jesus from a Godly mother and grandmother, and trusted my life to Him as a first grader. God put two key men in my life during my teen years that were models, Sunday school teachers, encouragers, and mentors. During that time, I began to wrestle with putting God first in my life. I also began to sense the beginnings of what would emerge as God's call to a life of ministry. With Julie's encouragement, I surrendered to that call while working on a graduate music degree in Philadelphia. We have never regretted stepping out in faith and saying yes to God.

My greatest interest is connecting well with His family and helping Parkview become all Jesus desires us to be. Outside of that, I also enjoy reading, movies, and encouraging other pastors.
